Boogie Nights

So I know I said I would start the challenge after the weekend, but my shift on Friday night was shorter than anticipated and what else are you gonna do on a stormy Friday night?

So this movie is two and a half hours long, and I did not realize that when I started watching it. That aside, the movie left me with mixed feelings at the end. You can read a brief overview of the movie here. This movie is about the porn industry, also something I was unaware of before viewing it. I guess that made it better that I wasn’t expecting it. There were moments when you realize that these people are just trying to make it, to get by, to survive, and because they’ve been told that they’re rotten in life have they chosen this industry. There are several moments when you really connect with the characters and feel what they feel. Some of the things you may have experienced, and that’s what makes it even more real. For some reason, I get the impression that the population thinks of the porn industry as people who aren’t necessarily real. These people tend to have loose morals, so people assume that they don’t have emotions either, and all they care about is getting some, but in reality, they’re just human. And they want exactly what every other human wants: to belong and to be loved.

Conclusion: watch if you have the time; interesting film; left me with some mixed feelings, some are still present. Overall, good movie. Would I say it was a “Heart in Throat” for me? Not by means of me being really emotional during or even after the movie, so I’m still questioning that.

Stacie Challenge

One of my friends has posted a blog series called “Heart in Throat” about films. As he describes it:

Heart in Throat: A one week series of scenes from films that have consistently given me pause, choked me up, or pinned me to my seat.

So, starting after this busy weekend of mine, I’ve decided that I would take on the challenge of watching all these “Heart in Throat” movies and posting my reaction to them. Here is the first movie that I will be watching. I haven’t read the reactions that Stephen has had to these movies, so this should be a fun experience reading them after I watch the movie!

Dexter

So I know I’m hopping on the “Dexter” train a little late, considering 4 seasons are now out and the 5th will start this fall, but my friend Ana would not stop talking about it, so I figured, why not? I’m not really doing much else with my time, might as well add another show I’ve watched in it’s entirety to my summer.

I just finished watching the first season and all I can say is: I’m addicted. Basically it’s a show about a serial killer who kills serial killers. So that makes him a good serial killer, right? It’s really interesting and not gory, I mean yeah there is blood, with all the murders and all, but it captivates you and makes you want to know more, and see more. It’s just so addicting. Well, since I have 3 more seasons to watch, might as well get to it! (By the way, I highly recommend this! It’s a thrill to watch!)

failing

A friend gave me this book to read, it’s called “Go for No!” It’s a very short book, took me about an hour to read. Quite motivational. It talks about how failing is not the same thing as being a failure. Failing is sort of stumbling forward to success, not moving away from it. Lesson that I learned: failing isn’t bad, it’s a great indicator that you’re moving toward your goals, and the faster you fail the faster you’re approaching your goals.

skins

So I started watching this show called Skins.

I’m only 3 episodes in, and so far I like it, but really, I just can’t get over how gorgeous Freddie is. tehehehehe.

Wonderland

Friday night I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Paid $14 for my ticket, and I can safely say that it was worth it. The movie is not based on the book, but is more of a grown Alice returning to Wonderland once more. The animations were done really well, and even the parts that were “real life” (not 3D) were incredible.  Also, the White Queen (played by Anne Hathaway) was a bit fruity, but it fit the role fairly well, it just made me think of the typical Disney Princess that’s all “la-de-da-de-da” And Helena Bonham Carter did a great job acting as the Red Queen, even though she’s supposed to be the “bad guy” in the movie, you feel sympathy for her during parts of the movie. And Johnny Depp was amazing! I love that he plays a character that’s half insane, and he does it so well. Plus his makeup looks grand. :D Well, everyone’s make up looks grand in this movie. And the costumes were sweet too. The kitty was beautiful too. Overall I loved the movie. Worth the money to see it in 3D
